5 reasons to update PeopleSoft 9.2 NOW

Oracle announced support for PeopleSoft until 2031, so current users have time to consider their next move. Should they opt for an entirely new platform now or move to the updated (and will be the last) version of PeopleSoft? If they upgrade now what are the advantages of doing this?

PeopleSoft’s customer base has remained firmly stable, even with the advent of cloud-based alternatives.

PeopleSoft 9.2 offers customers the opportunity to provide comprehensive resources to address the most complex challenges with simple, easy-to-use applications for their end users.

9.2 means that customers can choose what they need

The latest version means that once implemented, customers can choose what they need using Oracle’s selective adoption features and no longer must support the rigors of the upgrade. Instead, customers simply install new features and image fixes via PUM (Peoplesoft Update Manager) and can choose what and when they need it.

This feature is not only more stable and complete, it also helps to differentiate the software and has also proven to be very accepted among its users, since its customer base has remained resolutely stable, even with the advent of cloud-based alternatives. When added to Fluid support that allows customers to easily develop effective user interfaces, the positives start to show.

Reasons why you should upgrade to 9.2

  1. Avoid future costs associated with the normal update cycle
  2. Significantly accelerate the delivery of new business resources
  3. Stay up to date with maintenance, reducing the amount of testing needed
  4. Adoption of New Technologies like Chatbot and Kibana
  5. Reduce Customization and more personalization

What are Oracle’s main messages for PeopleSoft users?

Go to 9.2, stay on the latest tools and have a selective adoption strategy in place, this is how you take advantage of new features such as Chatbots, Configuration Framework, Fluid and maintaining the security and features already used and that are part of everyday. Oracle is recommending that customers update themselves (installing images and updating PeopleTools) every 12-18 months. Leaving it for longer will result in greater change management.

PeopleSoft users must adopt the Fluid user interface. It facilitates navigation, improves the look, and brings great advantages to the end user and opens a new set of configuration tools that are not necessarily available in the classic one such as Page & Field Configurator and Event Mapping. In addition, almost all new enhancements are provided in Fluid.

What are the main items of the script today?

Kibana

Kibana is a data visualization tool that provides maps, series, graphs, …

  • Kibana is provided through Tools 8.58, no additional license required
  • Kibana works directly with PeopleSoft
  • Personnel and recruitment dashboards will be delivered, but all will need to be configured for organizations individually
  • You can see this video hat shows the potential of analytics that Kibana adds to PeopleSoft

Chatbots

  • An additional license will be required for this, as it is a Cloud product
  • However, Oracle is delivering a Chatbot for Absence Management,Company Directory and with each image new bots have been coming to PeopleSoft.
  • They’re rule-based (unlike Alexa), so you’ll need some configuration, but it’s easy to do and we can support you with that!

More personalization and less customization

  • This is part of the great effort to isolate customizations and counteract their impact. Therefore, more parameterization = lower cost of ownership for users.
  • Major improvements will come in future tool releases
  • Now you easily change a label, hide a field and / or make it a required field without a developer.

Visual and FLUID updates

  • You may have noticed that in the most recent image there were some changes to the style sheet. In the future, Oracle will make minor visual updates to keep you updated.
  • Oracle thinks customers would like that, considering that Fluid was launched 5 years ago. This is all part of PeopleSoft and the broader Oracle UX teams, which continue to develop the user experience.

Job Data

  • As mentioned, everything in the future is becoming fluid. A major component that Oracle will be improving is “Job Data” with Fluid. Oracle will redesign this so that users see only what they need to see, eliminating any unwanted content. You can use the Page and Field Configurator to control what users can see.
  • For example, this will help users to focus on the mandatory fields for a Transfer or Promotion transaction, instead of having to filter all fields and pages in the Job Data.
